Up-and-coming tenor Stephen Costello joins the Baltimore Opera this month for his first Romeo in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette. Steven White will conduct Mr. Costello and soprano Youngok Shin in the title roles.
The opera opens March 29, with additional performances April 2, 4, and 6. The cast also includes bass Peter Volpe, bass-baritone Daniel Mobbs, and baritone Andrew Stuckey. Veteran stage director Bernard Uzan, who recently directed Mr. Costello in Opera Company of Philadelphia's Cyrano, takes the reigns for this production.
Following this production, Mr. Costello appears in a concert version of The Flying Dutchman with Opera Colorado, before singing Edgardo, a role he performed this fall at the Metropolitan Opera, in Lucia di Lammermoor at Fort Worth Opera. Mr. White will again join Mr. Costello to conduct the Lucia.
